Our Pets

Guinea Pigs

We have a resident Guinea Pig at Sandytots. Squeak is a popular addition to the nursery, and the children enjoy interacting with their furry friend.

Guinea Pigs, originating from South America, are easy to care for since they are relatively low maintenance. However, they have heaps of personality and are very friendly, making them a great pet for the children to get involved with. Their happy squeaks provide much entertainment too!

In June 2017 we introduced we introduced our first set of ducklings! In July 2018 we hatched our very own eggs and had three new ducklings. We have two very special types of duck at Sandytots – Indian Runner Ducks, known for their unusual upright stance, and Crested Ducks, which appear to have ‘pom poms’ on their heads, making them a very cute and comical breed. Unsurprisingly, all the ducks were an instant hit amongst the children who became very excited when they saw them splashing around. Their names are: Frankie, Jesse, Eric, Mabel, Penelope, Mabel and Dolly.

The Starfish garden is home to our small group of quails. The children love watching the quails and an added bonus is spotting any eggs that they have laid.

In the Starfish Room we have our very own fish tank which provides an endless source of fascination!

Tropical Fish

In the entrance to the nursery and the office we have our very own tropical fish tanks which currently has different breeds of fish in, our Neon Tetras , Angel Fish and Guppies. The children have really enjoy watching them swim around in their tank.

We also have a Beater fish in the nursery office which is a lovely blue and black colour called Blueberry.
