This week we welcomed Guide Dogs Elmo, George and Petal into the nursery to help the children learn about Support Animals.

We were so thrilled when Alison and Ellie from the charity Guide Dogs agreed to visit Sandytots and spend time with the children.

Guide Dogs help people with sight loss live the life they choose.

Over the years they’ve developed a wide range of services to support people living with a vision impairment. Their expert staff, dedicated volunteers and life-changing dogs help people live actively, independently, and well.

Michelle, our Nursery Manager commented:

“The children in Pufferfish really enjoyed the visit from the guide dogs Elmo and George, alongside our staff member Jayne’s lovely retired guide dog, Petal. All of the children went and said “Hello!” and enjoyed receiving stickers from their wonderful owners Alison and Ellie”.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to engage with the guide dogs and learn about the vital role support animals play in helping people with visual impairments.

Their visit created such a buzz of excitement, and the children were thrilled to meet the friendly guide dogs up close. It was not only a fun and memorable experience, but also an incredibly valuable one, helping the children learn about the important work guide dogs do to support people with visual impairments.

Through gentle interaction, the children gained a greater understanding of empathy, inclusion, and the many ways animals can help humans in their everyday lives.
